EGA is a video display standard introduced by IBM around
1984. It became popular a couple of years later when
low-cost non-IBM versions became available.

It supports the CGA standard but improves upon it by
adding higher resolution and additional colors in
graphics modes.

    Text: 16 colors; 40- and 80-columns/25-lines
                     40- and 80-columns/43-lines
Graphics: 16 colors; 640x350 (max)

Later standards, including VGA, support the CGA and EGA
standards but provide additional screen colors and
resolutions.
